Why Preventive Care is Important

Regular preventive care can help find small things before they become big things.

Preventive care support

Preventive care helps detect or prevent serious diseases and medical problems before they can become major. If it’s been a year since your last physical exam, it’s time for another visit. Preventive exams, immunizations, and screenings are recommended by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force.

Visit the UnitedHealthcare website to get a list of eligible preventive care services recommended for your age and gender and create a checklist for you and your family members.

Preventive care services are covered when you use a network provider. This means there’s no cost to you for the visit, and it is not subject to your annual plan deductible.

Understanding your care options

When you have a true emergency, you should always go to your local emergency room or call 911, if needed. But if it’s not an emergency, or you’re not sure, then what?

You have many options for care — including virtual visits. Become familiar with your options so you can make the most of your time and money.

At-home health screening kits

Test for important health factors from the comfort of home.

As of 1 June 2023, John Deere active employees on the UnitedHealthcare plan and their spouses/domestic partners have access to two confidential screening kits that test for important health factors at no cost to you. Plus, these screenings are able to be completed in the comfort of your own home.

  • A biometric screening kit is a full lipid panel screening plus hemoglobin A1c & self-reported height, weight and blood pressure. Share these results with your physician to evaluate for possible conditions such as diabetes, obesity, hypertension and heart disease. It is important for adults to complete a biometric screening annually.
  • A colon cancer screening kit, also known as FIT kit, is proven to detect lower GI tract bleeding, which may be caused by colorectal cancer or other causes.  FIT is recommended for people at average risk for colorectal cancer. The at-home colon cancer screening kit is non-invasive, no-prep required, convenient and private. If abnormal results are detected, a licensed clinician will contact you to discuss next steps.

Plus, you’ll have access to several health improvement resources and interactive tools, such as quizzes, exercise programs, nutrition and meal planning, and action steps to help you achieve your personal health goals.

We offer convenient onsite and offsite options to get a flu vaccination. Generally, options include participating in an onsite event, using a participating pharmacy, or visiting your network doctor.
